Books to Get You Out of Reading Slumps.

I am a huge fan of literary fiction and hardcore Fantasy. My favorite books are from those genres and I am a lot more invested in those books. BUT.

When I am stuck in a reading slump, the only thing that can get me out of them are easy, breezy contemporaries, mostly New Adult. Why? I don’t know, it’s a mix of addictive writing, romance and the fact that you know that there will be a happy ending.

So here are some books that got me out of reading slumps, and were just generally a lot of fun!

Harry Potter by J.K.Rowling

When in doubt, go back to Hogwarts. A reading slump is a perfect excuse to revisit the Harry Potter series. And the familiarity and coziness of the setting and its overall greatness is bound to put you back in the mood for reading.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Now, I hated every other book I read from Hoover, but this one was amazing! I really liked the back and forth between the characters, I liked their chemistry, and I also liked the writing. It keeps you engaged at all times! While this isn’t an overly happy read, it will definitely keep you reading all through the night, and will leave you feeling satisfied by the end of it. I acknowledge that these books aren’t the greatest that literature has to offer, but they’re quick, easy and addictive, and that’s what you need when a slump hits!

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Good old YA contemporary. You can’t go wrong with these ones. It’s a fluffy YA contemporary at its best, a cuteness overload kind of book, and it will leave you feeling all nice and warm.

The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick

If you like Pride and Prejudice or you like the concept of it, but can get on with the time period, this is the book for you! It’s a modern retelling of the classic story, and it’s done so well. The book is actually an adaptation of a web series, The Lizzie Bennet diaries, which you should also check out!

Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella

You can go for any Kinsella book and you won’t regret it. They are incredibly fun, feel good books and the best part- they are hilarious. Kinsella has a knack for writing awkward situations and it’s all so embarassingly funny.

Giant Days by John Allison

When in doubt, turn to comic books! They are easy to read and visually pleasing! Giant Days is easily my favorite, and it’s a contemporary, with some awesome female characters and friendships, and you should check it out!

The Princess Diaries Series by Meg Cabot

A lot of high school drama, but an amazing cast of characters and it’s completely ridiculous and adorable. Also, Michael.

Bad Romeo & Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven

My favorite New Adult books ever. It’s rare that I like female characters in these kinds of books but I loved the MC in this one! The chemistry between the characters is palpable and the tension is written perfectly. The writing is so addictive and it will make you constatly flip the next page.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Real, true and relatable characters that will grip you and won’t let you leave long after you’ve finished the book. Rainbow Rowell has a knack for writing really nicely developed relationships, and you can go for any of her books, this is just my personal favorite.

Hope you enjoyed the post and please let me know what books got you out of past reading slumps!
