Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

I can’t believe we’re already half way through the year.

So it’s June which means we’re halfway through the year. So it’s time to bring back my favorite tag from last year – the Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag! This is basically a tag in which you summarize your reading year so far and it’s a lot of fun! Also, a friendly reminder that I have a giveaway going on which you can enter HERE.

Let’s get on with it, shall we?

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

I have to say it right now: this year has sucked reading wise. Nothing I have read completely blew me away or made me fall head over heels in love with it. However, my favorite book so far has been Grief is the Thing With Feathers by Max Porter. I found it to be absolutely stunning and so unique and moving. You check out more of my thoughts on it here.

2. Best Sequel of 2017 so far?

I actually haven’t read any sequels this year! Huh. I did read The School for Good and Evil: A World Without Princes, but I did not like that one so much. Hopefully, I’ll be reading more sequels in the later part of the year.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want to?

Definitely When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon! I am so excited for this book, I just haven’t got around to it.

I just got it though, so I’ll be reading it soon!

4. Most Anticipated Release of the Second Half of 2017?

All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater by far! I adore The Raven Cycle and I am dying to read this one. It sounds awesome and so promising, and I can’t wait!

And I love that cover!

5. Biggest Disappointment?

The Accusation by Bandi. This was one of my most anticipated releases for the year, and I was so disappointed by it. This has an amazing premise, but the amazingness stopped there for me. It was bland and borderline boring sadly.

6. Biggest Surprise?

Definitely The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, which I talked about constantly. I went into it expecting another regular Romance, and while it essentially is another regular romance, I absolutely fell completely in love with it. I read it two times back to back. It was so good. This is your perfect hate-to-love trope book, and you can check out more of my thoughts here.

7. Favorite New Author (Debut or New to You) ?

This is a new to me author: Laini Taylor! Her writing style is absolutely STUNNING. I loved everything about it, it’s poetic and wonderful and works so well for her stories. I only read Daughter of Smoke and Bone but it definitely showcased her writing beautifully and I loved it. You can read my review for The Daughter of Smoke and Bone here.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

Not a lot of those kind of characters this year. I’ll go with Josh from The Hating Game because I really liked him, I think he is a wonderfully written character.

9. Newest Favorite Character?

Again, I read a lot of Literary Fiction this year, and in my head those books don’t leave you with favorite characters or crushes. However, some new characters I liked this year are Vivia from Windwitch and Ty from Lady Midnight (reviews for both can be found here and here).

10. Book That Made You Cry?

I actually am not a big crier at all, especially when it comes to books. So I don’t think I’ve actually cried to a book this year. I was quite emotional while reading Grief is a Thing With Feathers, though.

11. Book That Made You Happy?

I read Short Stories from Hogwarts recently and they were AWESOME. Definitely made me nostalgic for the Harry Potter series, and I overall loved them. More thoughts on them here, but if you love Harry Potter you’ll love this.

12. Favorite Book to Movie Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year?

I haven’t seen any! And I don’t think there were some good ones this year? If you have any recs leave them in the comments!

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

Oh this is hard! My favorite post of this year is my discussion on feminist books, but my favorite review is probably my review of Idaho by Emily Ruskovich !

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought or Received So Far This Year?

My 20th anniversary Harry Potter Ravenclaw edition! I’ve been posting it on my Instagram because it’s just so beautiful. I am tempted to get all of them now!

15. What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?

The rest of the year is going to be Fantasy for me so my top priorities are:

  1. Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson
  2. Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch
  3. The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss

This tag was created by two people over on BookTube and you can check out their videos here and here!

Also I don’t know if it’s customary to tag people in this, but I am gonna do it because I am interested in their answers! So, I tag:

Mikaela @ The Well-Thumbed Reader

Zuky @ The Book Bum

Holly @ Nut Free Nerd

Book Princess Reviews

Mahriya @ My Bookish Life

Janel @ Keeper of Pages

That’s it! Hope you enjoyed and let me know what’s your favorite book of 2017 so far!

  1. Oooh, this literally looks like so much fun. I’m definitely going to have to do this super soon (like, by the end of the week because it looks that good. XD). I loved reading your answers as well. I just got When Dimple Met Rishi as well, and I’m so pumped. And I couldn’t think of any book to movie adaptions as well. It seems like this year there was less? And I’ve been seeing a lot about The Hating Game, so I’ll definitely have to give it a try. Wonderful post, and thanks so much for the tag! ❤

  3. Ah, thanks for tagging me; I’m planning on doing this next month! IT’S GOING TO BE SO LONG (which is funny, because I haven’t even read that many books this year). XD

I’M SO EXCITED FOR ALL THE CROOKED SAINTS! I got an ARC of it at Bookcon, and literally can’t even. I have to resist reading it because I have about 2840280 June, July, August, and September ARCs I need to get through! I also LOVE Laini Taylor and Ty! He’s going to be the main character in the Wicked Powers, and I’m so freaking happy because he’s one of the few characters (along with Kit and Mark and probably a couple more I’m forgetting) that I like from the Dark Artifices series. XD

    1. Yay, can’t wait to see it! Oh I envy your restraint, I would have started already! Wait, what’s the Wicked Powers? I can’t keep up with her books 😂 But yeah, I loved Ty and Mark (still have to get to Lord of Shadows and Kit though)

      1. It’s the series after the Dark Artifices and the sequel series to The Infernal Devices (which I forget the name of now oh my God). So, it’s coming a long time away, but I’m still getting hyped for it! 😂

      2. YES THAT’S THE NAME! 😂 Yeah, I think The Wicked Powers was announced a LONG time ago because it’s been in Goodreads’ database for a while; I can remember that, at least. 😂
