I found another way to express my love for The Raven Cycle.
I have talked on and on about how much I love The Raven Cycle series. I seriously think it’s the best YA series out there. It has gorgeous, ethereal writing and characters that will stick with you long after you are finished with the series. Which will lead to your blog featuring the series in every single post.
So in preparation for a post/thing coming at you later on in the month (very mysterious), I thought I’d make a tag focused on my favorite series. There are a couple of these tags going around, but I really wanted to make my own, and tailor the questions to my personal experience with the books. I’ll also be sharing some of my favorite quotes from the series with you. So what are the rules of the tag?
- Mention the creator (meaning me) in your post
- Thank the person who tagged you
- You don’t have to use my graphics, but you certainly can! Just be sure to credit me
- Be sure to include this set of rules in your post
- Tag more people so we can all enjoy it!
- Most importantly – HAVE FUN
And that’s it! Let’s get on with the questions!
1. Blue Sargent – your favorite quirky character
“Blue was a fanciful, but sensible thing. Like a platypus, or one of those sandwiches that had been cut into circles for a fancy tea party.”
So for this question you’re supposed to pick a quirky character. Someone who is kind of strange and weird, but who is completely themselves and that’s what makes them such an interesting character. An obvious pick might be Luna Lovegood, but she really is that great. Or Dante from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Someone who is really quirky, but also really comfortable in their own skin.
2. Gansey – a leader
“Gansey was just a guy with a lot of stuff and a hole inside him that chewed away more of his heart every year.”
Now, Gansey is a natural born leader. He doesn’t seek it, but he embodies it. I feel like he is also uncomfortable in that position, but he is good at it. So pick a natural born leader for this one. I am going to go for Kelsier from The Mistborn trilogy. The face and the spark of a revolution. The one who starts it all.
3. Ronan Lynch – your favorite character of all time
“I am being perfectly fucking civil.”
I have talked A LOT about Ronan on this blog. I have a lot of feelings about him, so I thought it’d be appropriate for his question to be this one. So other than Ronan, my favorite character has to be Hermione. She is the first character I related to completely. Book Hermione is slightly different to her movie version, she never really quite fits in, she tends to be difficult and slightly overbearing, and I loved that sort of unlikable side of hers, which isn’t showcased enough in the movie.
4. Adam Parrish – a character you disliked at first, but you love now
“If you combined these two things – the unfathomable and the practical – you were most of the way to understanding Adam Parrish.”
It’s no secret I hated Adam up until the third book. But it’s also no secret that I adore him now. So pick a character that you couldn’t stand at first, but couldn’t stand to be without now. I am gonna go with Safi from Truthwitch. I tend to really dislike characters like her, but she really, really grew on me by the end of the book.
5. Noah Czerny – the most lovable character
“Depending on where you began the story, it was about Noah Czerny.”
Noah is the cutest character ever. I find that he is so kind and easy going and I really loved him and wish he got more page time. So for this question I am going with Levi from Fangirl. He is such a lovable, wonderful character and I love him. I really need to reread Fangirl.
6. The Women of 300 Fox Way – your favorite female role model
“ You could ask anyone: 300 Fox Way, Henrietta, Virginia, was the place to go for the spiritual, the unseen, the mysterious, and the yet-to-occur. ”
YA literature tends to have a lot of really questionable parents and parenting figures, so I loved how wonderful and protecting all of the women of 300 Fox Way are. So pick a great role model or a parenting figure. I am gonna go with Minerva McGonagall because she is beyond amazing. This is also the question for which I am most intrigued to see your answers.
7. The Search for Glendower – a book series you wish had never or will never end
“He was everything Gansey wished he could be: wise and brave, sure of his path, touched by the supernatural, respected by all, survived by his legacy.”
We all know what THE answer to this one is, but let’s not all put HP, shall we? I am gonna go with a comic book series – Giant Days. I would happily read about Susan, Daisy and Esther forever. This is a comic book series that follows three college students and friends as they navigate university life and it is GORGEOUS. I would love if it would go on forever.
8. Mr. Gray – an anti hero
“There aren’t terrible ideas. Just ideas done terribly.”
We all love our anti heroes and The Gray Man sure is one. A hitman with a heart of gold. Or at least a reformed one. For this question, I am going with the ultimate anti hero – Kaz Brekker. A thief, but a devoted and honorable thief who would do anything for his crew. LOVE HIM.
9. Psychics & Tarot Cards – your favorite magic system
“It was impossible to forget that all of these women were plugged into the past and tapped into the future, connected to everything in the world and to one another.”
I love how magic was incorporated into this story. It’s quiet and subdued and almost natural. It seems quite possible and real. For this question, I am going with the magic in The Mistborn series. The magic in these books is focused on metals and it’s the best magic I ever read about. It’s so well thought out and so well executed and really fleshed out. Love it.
10. Kavinsky – your favorite unlikable character
“Reality’s what other people dream for you.”
Kavinsky is one of the most interesting characters in the series. He is awful, but he is also really compelling and sort of draws you in. Destructive as he is. So for this one, I am going with Raskolnikov from The Crime and the Punishment. He is an absolutely awful human being, but there’s also a lot of complexity and even goodness in him. He is as complex as they come. If you haven’t read Dostoyevsky, please do. He is brilliant.
11. Cabeswater – your favorite book setting
“Cabeswater was such a good listener.”
To end on a beautiful note, I leave you with a question that pops up in most of the tags. I however, will not leave you with Hogwarts as the answer. I’ll choose the island city of Camorr from The Lies of Locke Lamora. A setting reminiscent of renaissance Venice, it is bursting with life and it’s one of the best written Fantasy settings I ever read about.
And that’s it! This post took me ages to do, but I am really happy with how it turned out and I hope you like it too, so please let me know!
Now as for the tags, I am gonna tag a bunch of people, and please don’t feel the pressure to do it. Especially since not everyone has read this or would want to do the tag related to a specific book. I just want to spread the tag around so I am tagging:
Mikaela @ The Well-Thumbed Reader
… and you! Feel free to do this if you want to and consider yourselves tagged!

I will admit that I have yet to read The Raven Cycle(D: D: D:), but your tag certainly makes me want to get on it super fast! ❤ Just from the descriptions, everything sounds like it definitely deserves to be your favorite series (looking back, I'm not sure that sentence makes entire sense but I can't think of how else to say it XD). Your graphics were so pretty, and I'm so stealing Kaz for my answer as well! ❤ This was so fun and original, and thanks so much for tagging me! I can't wait to do it! ❤ Fantastic post! 🙂

Ah, yes, this sounds like so much fun to do! I’ve actually loved Adam since the beginning and don’t care that much about Noah, but I shall play along for tag’s sake! 😂

Okay I get the Adam thing. But Noah!? 😂 I can’t wait to see your answers!

I’ve just never really cared about him??? I know so many people love him, though! 😂 I mean, I don’t like Henry, either, so I guess it balances out?

Yeah Henry was like an unnecessary character, there was no need for him 😂

Thank you! Of course! I have no idea?? From this perspective, I can’t believe I hated him, but he was so annoying to me when I read the first two books

I love that you included Kelsier! He did have some slip ups, but I definitely think that he was an amazing leader.
