A weekly feature in which I share new books I added to my TBR.
The start of my final university year has really creeped up on me, and now there’s only 8 days to go, and I for one am NOT ready for it. That’s why I’ve been obsessively adding new books to my TBR to quench the overall anxiety that university brings. So let’s talk books!
1. Elmet by Fiona Mozley
Why I added it: Firstly, because this is on the Man Booker shortlist and I haven’t heard of it before the announcement of the list. And secondly, this is giving me major Captain Fantastic vibes. If you haven’t seen that movie, you should do it right now. This book has a similar premise, and it’s about a father who raises his two kids far from the modern society and it’s supposedly really beautifully written. Count me in.
2. Carnivore by Jonathan Lyon
Why I added it: It sounds bloody brilliant. One of the blurb says: “The most original unreliable narrator and anti-hero you’ll encounter this year, or maybe even this decade.”, which YES PLEASE count me in, but also it deals with a person who has chronic pain and searches for ways to quench it. It sounds so intriguing! And that cover! Plus look at that “Let the villain win” tagline, so cool.
3. Sorry to Disrupt the Peace by Patty Yumi Cottrell
Why I added it: Well, I really LOVE the title… Besides that, it’s a story about a woman who goes back home to investigate the death of her adoptive brother. Those kinds of stories always do it for me. I am sure some family secrets will surface and I’ll love it.
4. Killer Women: Crime Club Anthology #1
Why I added it: Janel @ Keeper of Pages just spoke about it in her Books I Forgot to Read Post, and I just love the concept of it. It’s an anthology by women about women, but it’s crime so you know those women are gonna be dark and twisted, and we all know how much I love my awful female characters. Oh, and if you’re into crime fiction, check Janel’s blog out, you won’t be disappointed.
5. The Story of a Brief Marriage by Anuk Arudpragasam
Why I added it: This has been getting ALL the buzz recently, and I am really into it. It’s set during the civil war in Sri Lanka and it’s about two people who decide to get married so they can make their lives a bit easier. It’s giving me Stay With Me vibes (which I’ve LOVED and reviewed HERE) and it’s about a marriage, which is another favorite topic of mine.
That’s it for this week’s TBR additions! As always, I’d love to hear about new books you’ve discovered and added to your TBRs!
