A feature in which I recommend you books based on your favorite character.
Welcome back to Reading Lists, a feature in which I pair up characters with books! These are all books that I feel fit into the character’s aesthetic and personality, but also books I feel those characters would love to read. You can check the previous posts (Ronan Lynch, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Kaz Brekker, Nina Zenik and Harry Potter) HERE.

Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite characters ever! She is someone who isn’t afraid to be herself, who is different without trying to be and who is really smart. She is also this quirky character which I absolutely love. So the vibe we’re going for is whimsical, magical and unique books! So here’s Luna Lovegood’s reading list:
1. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
This is the most unique book I ever read. It’s experimental and different and pushes the boundaries and comfort zones of genres and structure and just does it’s own thing. It’s very Luna, plus I think she would really enjoy the whole concept of it, the ghosts and the history mixed together.
2. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
I know, I know, but this book is just so Luna. Weird teens stuck in a weird, supernatural search for a dead Welsh king. If you think about it, Luna would fit right into their group. Plus the atmospheric, magical things Maggie comes up with are so Luna, and I think she would love Cabeswater and all the magical aspects of this story.
3. The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
This is a satire of the Soviet Russia, but wrapped up in the weirdest magical realism story you can imagine. There’s a vodka-drinking black cat, Satan himself, Pontius Pilate… It’s such a unique story and I think Luna would absolutely love it. Plus I think she would really appreciate the satirical aspect of this and the critique of the regime in Russia.
4. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
I personally think Luna would love Middle Grade. And she would definitely love Inkheart. It’s a story about a girl who learns that her father, who repairs and binds books for a living, can “read” fictional characters to life. Characters leap out of the book, but also she ends up travelling to their world and it’s spectacular and whimsical and magical and so smart. I think Luna would absolutely adore it.
5. Northern Lights by Philip Pullman
I think Luna would love the mythos of this series. The dæmons, the armored bears and witch-queens and the whole atmosphere of the North and the book in general – I think she would love it. Plus the epicness and the scope of this story would really appeal to her. And I think she would really enjoy Lyra as a character. I think this is the perfect book for Luna.
6. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll
You knew this one was coming. This story is the ultimate Luna story. The quirkiness and eccentricity of this story is something that reflects Luna’s character so well. Plus, Alice as this curious and interesting girl who explores Wonderland is, again, a parallel you have to make. Add to that the layer of satire and representation of fears of growing up, plus the amazing cast of curious (and curiouser!) characters and you have the perfect Luna book.
So those are my picks for Luna! Let me know how you liked them, and tell me if you have any recs of your own. As always, I’d love to hear some requests for next reading lists!

I think Luna would love the Gangsey, especially Blue and Ronan? I don’t know why, I feel like she and Blue would become besties instantly and she wouldn’t be intimidated by Ronan at all and they could talk about magical pets and magical forests 💫

Omg you are so right! She and Blue would get on so well, and you’re right about Ronan! I think Luna would know how to handle him 😊
