Time for another monthly favorites.
I literally can’t believe January is FINALLY over. This month lasted like a year basically. It was never-ending. It’s not healthy really. So I feel like I did a bunch of stuff in January. So we’re gonna talk about all the stuff I loved in January while I was crying because of finals.
Favorite Book
I read a lot of 4 star books this month and none of them blew my mind, but they were pretty great. I am gonna say that the best of the month was Everything Is Horrible and Wonderful by Stephanie Wittels Wach. It’s a memoir in which Wach talks about her late brother, his struggles with addiction and how she dealt with his death. It was heartbreaking but also beautiful. I definitely recommend you check it out. I did a mini review on it HERE, if you’re interested. Other than that, I reread Truthwitch and it was even better than the first time. I have a review if you’re interested, but it’s really old so bear that in mind.
Favorite Movie
So I actually watched movies this month? I used to watch them all the time and then tv shows took over my life. But I am back! I finally watched The Force Awakens. I was one of those awful, annoying sceptics who did not want watch it because I love the original series and what not. But it was so so good! I loved all the characters and while I do think that it’s lame they copied everything, it’s lame in a good way? I don’t know it was super fun.
Favorite TV Show
I’ve been rewatching Friends, which I adore and it’s just been a great time. And since everyone does it, let me know in the comments which character you’re most like. I am definitely Chandler. I also watched End of the Fucking World this month and it was SPECTACULAR. So dark and so funny and clever and everything about it was brilliant.
Favorite Music
ALL THE NEW JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE SONGS. I really love them. I am currently listening to the whole album and it’s super cool. Also, song of the month goes to Demi Lovato’s Tell Me You Want Me, because I’ve been obsessed with it for some reason. And no favorite album, all singles or just random songs this month which is rare, but yeah.
Favorite Video
I’ve tweeted this recently, but this Dear Stephanie Meyer by Lindsay Ellis was so brilliant and insightful and smart. It’s great at talking about how we treat stuff teenage girls consume and how we treat really popular stuff and just different standards. Watch it, it’s real great.
Favorite Posts
For my own content, I think my Blogs You Should Follow post was really popular and I really enjoyed putting it out. You should check it out if you did not. As for the community, everyone had such amazing posts this month??? How do you do it? You’re all great. Stuff you should check out:
- Janel’s and Melanie’s Reading Year in Review posts were both brilliant and I really enjoyed them
- Elise @ The Bookish Actress talks about Favorite books of 2017 AND WE’RE ALL LISTENING
- Holly @ The Nut Free Nerd shares her INCREDIBLY aesthetically pleasing post on books she meant to read in 2017 but didn’t
- Mandy @ Book Princess Reviews reminds us all why we loved Percy Jackon (or she reviews the series, which is the same)
- Shanah @ Bionic Bookworm shares her bullet journal and it’s so pretty we all lose it (or I did)
- Rachel @ Pace, Amore, Libri shares the beautiful covers of her ARCs (or she talks about ARCs she needs to read but they all have pretty covers, so…)
- Theo @ Reading and Rambling predicts ratings for his TBR and nobody knows how
- Mikaela @ talks about who is superior in interpretation – authors or readers?
- Callum recommends family dramas!!!
- Destiny @ Howling Libraries reviews Blue Lily, Lily Blue
- Sydney @ Fire and Rain books reviews The Raven King
And I would do more, but I just can’t fit everything in here. I might start doing these more frequently from next month on.
Random Favorite
I am sure I shared this before, but I love jellyfishes. A lot. And I like watching a live stream of them when I am studying. It’s really calming, you should try it. And since I was only studying this month, it’s been a reinstituated favorite.
And those are this month’s favorite things. What were some of yours? I would LOVE to know. Please tell me in the comments below!

I’ve just started watching the End of the f#####g world. It’s brilliant isn’t it! I love the editing especially, and watching the characters grow.

Yes! I watched it all in a single day and it was so good. I love the humor and the editing is super cool like you said. And I think the actors are brilliant

Wow brilliant! It takes me a while at the moment. I can’t watch it during the day with my little girl, hah it would be slightly inappropriate. So I watch while she naps! And yes it’s very good. Me and my partner watch Peaky Blinders in the evening if you haven’t seen it. A fantastic series.

Everyone recommends me Peaky Blinders all the time, and I just never got around to watching it. I’ll definitely have to check it out soon.

Thanks for the shoutout, glad you enjoyed the post 😊
Yay, I’m glad you liked The Force Awakens! I totally know what you mean about the plot mirroring the original. It’s technically playing it safe but just felt really fun and nostalgic. I actually loved the full circle feel of the first movie opening with Leia smuggling a message out, and the new trilogy opening with someone trying to smuggle a message TO Leia. *having a Star Wars nerd moment*
I’d be really interested to see how you feel about The Last Jedi if you watch it now, because whilst TFA played it safe and was predictable, TLJ has SO many unexpected twists.

Of course! I loved the post! 😊
Yeah, I was super weary of the movie, but it played into my nostalgia so well and I ended up really enjoying it. I loved that as well, I generally enjoy that kind of plot set up, when things go full circle. And I especially enjoyed the fact that there were more prominent female characters and more POC characters.
I am so excited to watch The Last Jedi, I just have to convince people to go see it again, since every single one of my friends has already seen it while I was being grumpy about the new movies 😂 And I am glad that they did something new, because I don’t think I’d enjoy another mirroring of the plot

Very true, they could get away with the mirroring in TFA since it was setting up the new trilogy, but I’m really glad they were much bolder in TLJ.
And YES for the much better female and POC rep. It’s a good example of a series listening to feedback and bettering itself by improving its diversity – unlike Harry Potter 😉
Hope you enjoy TLJ. It seemed to split fans (as every Star Wars movie beyond the originals does, lol) but I loved it!

Yup! It also played into nostalgia very well, unlike certain projects *cough* Cursed Child *cough* 😂 thanks, I’ll let you know how I liked TLJ once I get to it 😊

Friends is AMAZING. My family rewatches it regularly and since it landed on Netflix, we were due for another rewatch. It’s great.

Thanks for the mention! It makes me so happy to see that my bullet journal has inspired others to start one themselves. I’m such a nerd when it comes to organization!! Lol
Gah every time I see truthwitch I feel so guilty that I haven’t read it yet!! Soon I hope!

I so envy you on your organizational skills, you have no idea. I am the worst when it comes to that stuff. I am sure you would love Truthwitch, it’s amazing!

The sad thing about Truthwitch is that I bought it the week it came out!! 😂 I’m a little OCD when it comes to planning. And my life is so busy that if I don’t write it down I forget about it.

DARN IT! I was going to borrow Truthwhich from my local library this morning but chose another book instead. I’ve been wanting to read it SO BAD! But I HAD to start The Throne of Glass series… (Too many books, not enough time)
Good post! I love reading people’s favorites. BTW I also agree with your analysis on The Force Awakens.

I love that it’s new and different for him, but he still remained true to himself as an artist. I feel like some artists do new and different but don’t stay true to themselves as artists.

Anyway, I really need to get on Truthwitch if you enjoyed it even more the second time around. This was such a fun wrap-up, and thanks so much for including me in your posts!! Wonderful post!! ❤
