Adam Parrish’s Reading List

This post is incredibly late.

Welcome to the newest installment in my Reading Lists Feature, a series of posts where I compose reading lists for and inspired by different characters. These are all books that I feel fit into the character’s aesthetic and personality, but also books I feel those characters would love to read. You can check the previous posts (Ronan Lynch, Hermione, Ron, Kaz Brekker, Nina Zenik, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Inej Ghafa and Iseult det MidenziHERE.

This month in Reading Lists, everyone’s favorite magician – Adam Parrish. This fanart is one of my favorite Adam depictions – it looks exactly like I picture him. Click on the image to go to the artist’s page!

If you did not know I used to loathe Adam, and then he became one of my favorite characters. I think he has the best character arc in YA (don’t @ me, it’s true). He is quiet, determined, smart, but also insecure and a constant contradiction. He is always in a fight with himself and his past. I could go on, but that’s the vibe we’re going off of on Adam.

So without further ado, here’s Adam Parrish’s Reading List!

1. Did You Ever Have a Family by Bill Clegg

This is one of my favorite books of all time, and people never talk about it. This is such a short, quiet and unassuming book that is so complex and packs such a punch. Very Adam. Moreover, it’s a character driven small town family story and it’s so gorgeously written. I think Adam would adore this one, and the story has an Adam vibe to it. I have a whole review on it if you want to check it out!

2. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

I think this is a very literary Fantasy and I think that’s precisely why Adam would like it. It has a hero who is not quite like he seems and who is very confident, but also very contemplative and aware of himself. And that’s something I think Adam becomes. Moreover, it’s a classic hero story with a twist and I think Adam would appreciate that.  There’s a full review for it if you want to know more HERE.

3. Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire

I think Adam would really be into comics and I think Sweet Tooth is a great story for him. It’s a dystopian/post-apocalyptic story about a boy who is different and persecuted because he is born with antlers. It’s weird but really thoughtful and emotional. I absolutely love it, and I am sure Adam would to.

4. The Stranger by Albert Camus

This is a highly inwardly pointed novel. It’s one of the most prominent pieces of existential literature and it virtually has no plot. It’s a novel of thought and philosophy and it’s super engaging in that way that makes you think. And since a lot of it goes on in the head of the main character, it’s I think a really good pick for Adam. It’s quiet but highly contemplative. Just like Adam.

5. Hyperspace by Michio Kaku

I think Adam would be into physics. He is someone who is really logical and intelligent and I think he would highly enjoy the theory of strings and the idea of travelling through different dimensions and time being circular because duh, that’s basically the book. I think Adam would really enjoy exploring the science behind these phenomenons and that’s why I think he would really like this book. It’s really good.

6. All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

This is a book I don’t talk a lot about, because I read it a long time ago, and it’s historical fiction which is kind of always difficult for me. But this was really beautifully and intricately written, and it’s again a highly contemplative story about World War II, and it intertwines the lives of a French girl and a German boy. It’s a really unassuming novel that packs a punch and it’s really gorgeous. I think it’s a great Adam pick.

So that was Adam’s reading list! Have you read any of these books? Do you think these are good picks? Any picks of your own you’d like to share? Do you have any requests for this series? Let me know!
