More Harry Potter book recommendations.
A while back I did a Hogwarts House recommendation post and it’s honestly one of my favorite posts I’ve ever done. So I thought it’d be fun to do another one of those. So if you like Harry Potter or you just need some good book recs, keep reading!
“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.”
The Power is a feminist novel without trying to be one, it’s deeply subversive and stands on its own, without being in your face with its message, something any Ravenclaw would enjoy. Her Body and Other Parties is an incredibly well-written short story collection and I think it’s so wonderfully weird and has a lot of layers, which I think Ravenclaws would really enjoy unpacking. Grief is the Thing With Feathers is a deeply moving story about grief, and I think Ravenclaws would love how clever it is in its structure. Same goes for Lincoln in the Bardo. It’s clever and rooted in symbolism, which a Ravenclaw would love pondering upon.
“You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil.”
You all know how much I adore Beartown. It’s a book about friendship and loyalty and family and any Hufflepuff would love it and be destroyed by it. Fence is a comic series about fencing, and every single character in it is a cinnamon roll, just like Hufflepuffs. Foolish Hearts is one of my absolute favorite reads of the year and it’s all about friendship, so a naturally Hufflepuff book (any Emma Mills book is). Finally, Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda is a coming of age story, with wonderful characters that must be protected at all costs and whom Hufflepuffs would love.
“Or perhaps in Slytherin
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.”
Kvothe has to be one of the smartest, most clever and most cunning characters out there. Not to mention one of the most unreliable narrators. So The Name of the Wind is a great Slytherin book. Death Note is a manga series that is really philosophical and that discusses morality in a really interesting way, so very Slytherin by nature. The Bear and the Nightingale is an incredibly atmospheric read, with a lot of dark themes and mischievous, cunning characters, and I think Slytherins would love it. And finally, Six of Crows is morally gray characters galore. Basically, most of the characters are Slytherin and it’s the ultimate Slytherin book.
“You might belong in Gryffindor
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart.”
Children of Blood and Bone is an incredibly atmospheric adventure with fierce, brave and loyal characters and I think Gryffindors would love it. The Way of Kings (and the whole Stormlight Archive) is the most epic, thrilling series I have ever read and Gryffindors would eat it up. I love recommending comics for Gryffindors, since they’re quick and exciting, and The WicDiv is no different. It will keep any Gryffindor on the edge of their seat with its twists and turns. And finally, Traitor’s Blade is one of the most fun, engaging Fantasies I ever read, with the most reckless, oblivious, loyal main character ever. Falcio val Mond is the ultimate Gryffindor.
So those are my recommendations based on Hogwarts houses! Let me know what you think and be sure to share your recs if you have any!
