Another month, another favorites post.
Wow, it’s August already. This year is going by so fast. I skipped last month’s favorites because June was a trash fire of studying and finishing my degree, BUT July was a normal month so I am excited to share some of my favorite things!
Favorite Book
I just finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman and it’s not only my favorite book of this month, it’s probably my favorite of the year so far. I am beyond glad I finally picked this up. It was a perfect read for me and I was mesmerized by the atmosphere Gaiman managed to create and really impressed with his cleverness. I will have a review up for it tomorrow so you can get more in depth thoughts, but wow, this was great.
Book count: 17!!! (I am so proud of myself for this tiny life accomplishment!)
Favorite Movie
I am sure not a lot of you have heard about this one, but I stumbled upon The Florida Project and I absolutely adored it. It’s a drama centering on a six year old Moonee who lives in a motel with her mother just outside of Walt Disney World in Florida. I loved the cinematography in this one and it was at times sad, but also quite funny. And the little girl who played Moonee is a fantastic actress. I highly recommend this one.
I also saw Ocean’s Eight finally and while it wasn’t anything spectacular, I was super excited to just see a bunch of badass women kicking ass and being friends. It was GREAT. Also, Rihanna.
Favorite TV Show
July was great for me and TV shows. I finally watched Queer Eye and I am obsessed. I love each and every one of the hosts (especially Tan and Antoni. And Jonathan), and the show is just so heartfelt and manages to be funny but also to tackle big problems and to discuss a lot of big, current issues in America and I just love that. The five hosts have great chemistry and work well together and Antoni even wore A Little Life t-shirt one time so the show wins in every aspect.
I have also managed to finish both seasons of The Good Place and I can honestly say I adore it. It’s so smart and clever and it’s exactly the kind of humor I enjoy, so I find it incredibly funny and satisfying. I have even started rewatching it with my sister just days after I finished it, which is a testament to how great the show is.
I also started watching One Day at a Time. I really love how diverse the show is and how it constantly discusses really big and important issues, while focusing on family and love and it’s really great.
Favorite Music
I haven’t update my Spotify playlist in a while, so I am just gonna tell you what I’ve been loving. I am obsessed with Florence + The Machine’s new album, High as Hope, and I have listened to it like a million times. I am also loving Scorpion by Drake because Drake’s awesome. As for songs, I love Eastside by benny blanco, Halsey and Khalid because it features two faves – Halsey and Khalid. I also LOVE the new The 1975 song Love If We Made It, it’s reminiscent of their old sound so I am obsessed.

I order from Zavko! For me it’s about low cost shipping and they have it. The Funkos are regularly priced on there I believe.

I liked Ocean’s 8 better than Ocean’s 11. All 8 of them had their moments instead of focusing just on the leads as it happened in Ocean’s 11, and it was just funnier overall, imo. Also, they had Cate Blanchett in a suit, and you just can’t compete with that!

YES. Cate Blanchett in a suit and Rihanna in that red dress, it’s really no competition

Haha thank you for the shoutout! I really hope you like Sky in the Deep when you read it. Also, HUGE YES 100% to Florence. I love her so, so much. Drake is good too, but I mostly prefer his first couple of albums! And yes to Queer Eye. ♥ My partner and I watch an episode or two of that here and there because we’re trying not to binge watch it all and then not have any more new episodes to watch, lol.

Of course! I prefer Drake’s older stuff too, but I always end up loving the new stuff as well 😁 And that’s smart, I binge watched both seasons and now there’s nothing to do but follow Queer Eye meme accounts 😂

I agree! It’s been a while since I became obsessed with a show so quickly. And yeeees, the third season needs to be here already!

i know right?! At first glance you think its a stupid childish show until you finish the first season. Then…it takes off pretty fast, I really gre to like the characters and honestly, the show make me feel morally guilty.

Someone highly recommended American Gods to me, so I’m uber excited to check it out! And I looooved Ocean’s Eleven as a kid, so I just might go watch Eight for kicks. And oh my gosh, that version of Ron is AWESOME; I’m waiting to buy that one, but for sure it’s going in my collection. 😉

I loved Ocean’s Eleven movies too, so it was really fun to see a different version of it. I KNOW IT’S SO GREAT, the only problem is that now I want both Harry and Hermione in that version 😅
