Arya Stark’s Reading List

“Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe.”

Welcome to the newest installment in my Reading Lists Feature, a series of posts where I compose reading lists for and inspired by different characters. These are all books that I feel fit into the character’s aesthetic and personality, but also books I feel those characters would love to read. You can check the previous posts (Ronan Lynch, Hermione, Ron, Kaz Brekker, Nina Zenik, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Inej Ghafa, Iseult det Midenzi, Adam Parrish, Jude St. Francis, Sansa Stark and Wylan Van EckHERE.

As always, if you click on Arya, you will be transferred to the artist’s page. But just look how awesome Arya looks.

I feel like Arya is one of those characters that every single fan of GoT loves. If you don’t like her, I don’t know who hurt you and I am sorry, but Arya is amazing. I absolutely loved her character from the beginning and I love her journey. For me, Arya is fierce and scrappy and incredibly determined. She never gives up and she loves her family. She is a fighter and she is resourceful to no end. Also, in the beginning, she yearns to fight and yearns for adventure, and then progressively, things get dark and she is just trying to survive and then avenge her family. That’s the vibe we are going for. So here’s Arya Stark’s Reading List.

1. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I think Arya would love this for a number of reasons. There’s a strong sense of loyalty and family (even if it is found family) in this book and I think that’s a big part of Arya’s character. Moreover, every single person in this book is a badass and Arya would fit right in. Finally, while the Dregs are thieves there’s a strict honor code to follow, meaning they are all probably lawful neutrals and so is Arya which just makes this book the perfect choice for her.

2. Sadie by Courtney Summers

This was a recent read for me and I feel like Arya would love it and could relate to Sadie a lot. Sadie goes to extreme lengths to avenge her sister and will stop at nothing before she reaches her goal. She gets sad, and scared and lonely, but she is beyond determined and resourceful, which is so like Arya. Plus, this book is an engaging page-turner, which would be right up Arya’s alley. I have a full review on it if you want more of my thoughts but this is a great pick for Arya.

3. The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

These are some of my favorite books ever and I think they would be loved by Arya too. They are exciting, full of adventure and full of kickass characters. I also feel like a lot of these books focuses on tough kids who fight back and who are resourceful, but who also get beat down sometimes, and persist despite of that. There’s a sense of urgency and adventure in these novels that I think would really appeal to Arya, and most of these characters are really righteous which is something I always find compelling about Arya.

4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

A YA cult classic, and I think books that Arya would love. It’s about war and family and fighting back, which is all very Arya. Moreover, these books show a girl who feels helpless and is just trying to survive, but who also learns how to fight back. Plus, Katniss loves her sister and Arya is determined to avenge her family. I also feel Katniss is very scrappy and resourceful which Arya can relate to. And you know Arya would win the Hunger Games, one way or the other.

5. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Is this now just a platform for me to plug all my faves? Why, yes, yes it is. But like again, Arya would love this a lot. Great female characters – check. Really kickass characters – check. Adventure – check. A surly assassin who really grows on you – check. Literally doing everything in your power just to be reunited with your family – check. Basically, this checks all of the Arya boxes and you should read it. Also, if you want to know more about this series, just do a search on my blog and you will find NUMEROUS posts on it.

6. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

I absolutely love this one and Arya would too. It has a gorgeous setting and it has a great female heroine at the centre. She is angry and spunky and really wants to learn how to fight so she can finally fight back. And like Zélie is going to strike against the monarchy, which is literally what Arya is going to do, eventually at least. Also, there’s magic and adventure and this book is so engaging, Arya would eat it up. If you want to know more, you can do so HERE, but this would be one of Arya’s favorite books of 2018, no doubt.

And that’s my reading list for Arya Stark. This is a very YA list, which I try not to do, but this time it was just right. I would love to hear your thoughts on it and as always, if you feel like any books are a good pick for Arya, let me know!

  2. Great list! I also think Arya would have To Kill A Mockingbird on her shelf. I find Arya and Scout to be such similar characters, especially in the first book, Game of Thrones. I’ve always wondered if Scout was a bit of inspiration for Arya’s character.

  3. We’ll pretend SoC isn’t there and then I can be Arya because I can get on board with all the others! It’s interesting that when I look at this post, and compare it to Sansa’s reading list, I definitely am a little more Sansa (reading-wise anyway). I love this Reading List series!
