I will riot.
How does time keep slipping away? Like how is October over? It was just July what feels like yesterday. And more importantly, what am I doing with my life? Ugh. October was a weird month. It was simultaneously really busy and also not that busy. A lot of new stuff happening and a lot of stuff that needed preparation, but not that much real work. So there was time for reading and stuff – so let’s talk about favorites!
Favorite Book
This was a solid reading month, quality wise. I was into almost every book I read this month so that’s a huge plus, since you know this year has been tough on me with mediocre books.
That being said, this month I have a tie between two favorites! I loved Monstress Volume 1 so much, it has the most gorgeous and unique art ever and the story is so powerful and exciting. It’s been a while since I was this obsessed with a book. And the other favorite of the month is Little Fires Everywhere. I was head over heels for this book. It’s a story about family and parents and children and it’s really, really superbly written and also incredibly insightful and smart. I highly recommend both of these, they are amazing.
Favorite TV Show
Guys, I just started This Is Us and I am obsessed with it. I have only seen the first two episodes and I wasn’t entirely aware of the premise when I started and I was just mind blown by the end of the first episode. And also, I am just head over heels with the characters and it’s such a wonderful, very human story and I can’t wait to watch more. I have only seen the first two episodes (no spoilers) but I already know this is gonna be one of my favorite shows ever. Please watch it!
I also saw The Dragon Prince this month and it was superb! I loved the animation and the story is super fun so I also highly recommend that one too!
Favorite Music
Khalid came out with a new EP and I absolutely love it! Khalid’s music is amazing, I have loved his stuff for a while now, and this EP is sooo good, I highly recommend it. My favorite song on it is probably Suncity but all of them are good. Go give it a listen and then check back with me!
Favorite Posts
This has been a slower month for me, because school started, but I had some pretty good posts, if I do say so myself. Favorite ones are probably my newest blogging tips on How to Make Your Blog Pretty, the discussion on author interactions and the one on reacting to negative reviews because it was super fun. And thank you for all the love on those!
As for everyone else, you guys rocked as always:
- Hannah @ I Have Thoughts on Books recommends short story collections
- Janel @ Keeper of Pages does another Ramblings post and I love it
- Rachel @ Pace, Amore, Libri does the most negative 4 star review ever (on my favorite book) and I loved it
- Elise @ The Bookish Actress reviews Girl of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
- Malanie @ Malanie Loves Fiction talks about her favorite magic systems
- Melanie @ Mel to the Any reviews The City of Heavenly Fire (my fave Shadowhunter book) and I loved her whole journey with the Shadowhunter universe
- Fiction No Chaser review The Kiss Quotient
All great posts, all great people, go check these posts out!

Football season is on! I can’t believe I still haven’t talked about it. My Sundays are now reserved for football and it’s been a great season. I am gonna need you all to root for NO Saints, because I love them. And this has been great for my reading as well, because football lasts for a long time, and I always read in between plays, so I get a lot of reading done. Yay!
And those are this month’s favorite things. Let me know your favorite things of October, especially books, I’d love to know!

Thank you for linking to me and my ridiculous review. I’m surprised that you watch American football – personally I hate all team sports so I don’t watch it, BUT I used to live in New Orleans so I’m very happy that you support the Saints. Who dat!

Of course – I loved your review! And people are always surprised by the fact that I watch it. I am even surprised since I have never participated or been a fan of any team sport. But I love this! And YAY for Saints! Who dat! 😁

Thanks for the shout out, I’m so glad you’re enjoying my ramblings, because they are now a staple feature!! ….I think I’m going to have to start avoiding your posts because first I ordered that Black Future book the day after seeing it in your covers post, and when I preorder it, I also bought Monstress because you raved about it on Instagram, you’re becoming too expensive to follow 😂

I love those posts, keep ’em coming. I am not gonna apologize for enabling your book buying because I know you will LOVE both of those

I’m only about an hour in, but I’m loving it! I don’t know about a medal, but you have a brief mention in my next Sunday rambling so that will have to do! 😂

I haven’t watched This is Us yet but I’ve heard so many people rave about it! I also don’t even really know the premise, is it best to go into it blind?

It’s amazing so far! I think just knowing the genre (it’s like a contemporary, family drama) is enough, just to make sure you’re into that kind of stuff. And then I would go blindly into it, I was so impressed with the first episode!

Great list love! And I know…I can’t believe it’s the first of November…where did the time go?! I actually might not meet my goodreads reading challenge this year…ugh!

Thank you! I have no idea I am sure we’ve entered a warp in the space-time continuum because time is WEIRD. I feel like it was January yesterday. Eh, I lowered mine at the start of the year (because I knew I could not read as much as last year) so I feel ya! There’s always that last minute reading of graphic novels to boost the number 😂

LMFAO! Yup…I always save the mangas and comics and graphic novels for the end 😉

I’m huge into football too! I watch all day on Sunday! Who is your team? I’m a Packers fan AKA a cheesehead. From Rochester NY though, but the Bills suck! My dad is a Dolphins fan and my mom’s from Buffalo. They went to a Bills vs Dolphins game on their honeymoon in Miami. They got honked at bc they had NY plates and had a dolphin painted on the side of their car. LOL

Like I said – the Saints! I do love the Packers too (or to be more precise, I love Rodgers 😅). Omg what a fun way to spend a honeymoon

I LOVE Rodgers. I nearly cried when it looked like he was going to be out for the season in the middle of the FIRST game. Last year sucked without him. Rodgers is what made me a Packers fan and really got me into football.
