So I read The Cruel Prince and I was captivated by it completely, no matter how complicated my feelings of it were (more on that HERE). And my obsession totally grew from the moment I read it (I am currently reading The Wicked King and !!! ), so I figured I’d make a playlist for it.
This artwork is by one of my favorite artists ever, Melanie Bourgeois! I think it’s stunning and be sure to check out her Twitter and GAZE upon her art. Click the image to check out her page!
I have previously done playlists for books I love (The Raven Cycle, Six of Crows and The Witchlands), so I figured it was time to do one for The Cruel Prince. The full playlist is on Spotify, but be aware – it’s hella angsty. Because the book is. So here it is:
Okay the playlist opens with some power songs that are very Fae – Glory by Bastille, Joyride by Tinashe (a bop) and Glory and Gore by Lorde. Then we move over into pure angst with Way Down We Go. Then there’s Lana del Rey’s interpretation of Once Upon a Time that is SUPER dark and again, very Fae. Then songs 6-10 is pure Cardan and June with Banks and other really angsty songs. Banks is so good for this ship. Then it’s Kehlani’s Nights Like This that is very Locke x Jude song. And then Florence + The Machine and Hozier songs to get a breather and that are more atmospheric as opposed to angsty. But then we switch back to angst with Drowning and Waiting Game which just scream Jude x Cardan. Same goes for Kehlani’s Again:
But then there was the blood from your heart on my hands again
Though I swore I washed it off in the waves
And I wish I was sorry, damn I wish I was sorry
That I don’t know how to stay away, stay away
Woah. And then there’s Sky Full of Song for the general MOOD and then a Sam Smith song:
If I’m all that you desire, I promise there’ll be fire
I need to hear you, say it first
Come on baby
Do your worst
I know you’ll take me higher
I CAN’T. Finally we close the playlist with Halsey and it’s a surprise there’s only one of her songs on here:
Tell me how’s it feel sittin’ up there
Feeling so high but too far away to hold me
You know I’m the one who put you up there
Name in the sky
Does it ever get lonely?
And that’s how the book ends, so it’s basically the perfect song to end the playlist.
I hope you enjoyed this, let me know what you think of the songs and let me know what your ultimate Cardan x Jude song or just whether you like making playlists for your favorite books!
