Welcome to the newest installment in my Reading Lists Feature, a series of posts where I compose reading lists for and inspired by different characters. These are all books that I feel fit into the character’s aesthetic and personality, but also books I feel those characters would love to read. You can check the previous posts (Ronan Lynch, Hermione, Ron, Kaz Brekker, Nina Zenik, Harry Potter, Luna Lovegood, Inej Ghafa, Iseult det Midenzi, Adam Parrish, Jude St. Francis, Sansa Stark, Wylan Van Eck, Arya Stark, Gansey and Blue Sargent) HERE.
This artwork of Jude just kills me! Look at her! She is such a badass and she looks GORGEOUS. This art is by Wictorianart and clicking on the image will take you to their blog!
Jude has quickly become one of my favorite characters ever. She is a badass, she is incredibly ambitious and on top of all that, she is a survivor. She is smart and calculated and willing to make sacrifices and difficult choices and I just love her. So that’s the vibe we’re going for. If you want to know more about her, here are my The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King reviews. But without further ado, here is Jude Duarte’s reading list:
1. A Cathedral of Myth and Bone by Kat Howard
This book is right on the edge between fantasy and reality and I think that fits the Fae world perfectly. Moreover, this is a collection about women, about them reclaiming agency and finding their place in the world. Or better yet – earning their place in the world. That sounds like the PERFECT pick for Jude and I think she would absolutely love this one. My review for it can be found HERE.
2. Sadie by Courtney Summers
Jude would absolutely love Sadie as a character. Sadie is also written in this raw and powerful way that would speak to Jude. On top of that, Sadie is a survivor and she fights so hard for her sister. And this is also about reclaiming your agency and your narrative and fighting back, no matter the cost. I think Jude would absolutely adore it. Full review available HERE.
3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
This book is so twisted and messed up and Jude would absolutely love it. Amy Dunne is awful, but she is also such a compelling character. She is smart and being in her head is so difficult but so enticing. I just think Jude would appreciate Amy and the way Gillian Flynn writes women. She doesn’t embellish anything and all her female characters have a dark side, which Jude would just love and relate to.
4. Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien de Castell
This is the fun factor pick for Jude, because she needs a break. This book is exciting, there’s swordplay, there’s plot twists galore, there’s politics and scheming and machinations taking place at all times, and she would have so much fun with this book and I think she would be a huge fan of this series. Full review HERE.
5. The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
I think Jude and Kestrel would get along so well. They are really similar and remind me of each other a lot. They’re both strategists and while Jude is a fighter as well, I think scheming is her strong suit and so is Kestrel’s. They’re also both fighters and survivors and let’s face it, the enemies-to-lovers romance is also something they share. I think Jude would really love this series. Full review HERE.
6. From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata
LISTEN. This novel is the slowest of slow burns in history of time. It moves by a glacial pace. And it’s so good. It’s also a hate-to-love romance, and the main characters constantly step on each other’s toes and challenge each other and no one else can ever match that for them. And by the end of it, they become the ride or die partners and that is what we NEED Jude and Cardan to become. I think Jude would also love the main character because she fights and she survives and she is so good at what she does. I think Jude would LOVE this one.
And that is my Jude Duarte reading list! Hope you enjoyed this one and as always, scream about The Cruel Prince with me in the comments, tell me how you like the list or just come and talk about books! You know I love that!
