October Wrap Up: Made-Up Royalty and Life Getting in the Way

Welcome to another reading wrap up! First up – a life update. September and October were super hectic months for me, a lot was happening and I was just not in a place to commit my time to blogging. I mentioned briefly in my previous post that I now have very little free time due to school. And since I have very little free time, my reading has gone down, which always leads to not enough content or motivation to blog. But not only that – I physically have no time to sit down and write posts. SO – posts won’t be coming as frequently on here, but I hope you will still enjoy the stuff I do manage to put up.

Let’s talk about books now!

I was super excited about this book, and it’s another in a string of books that I was super hyped about and felt meh about. I genuinely loved the premise of this novel and I found the writing to be really good, but the book did nothing for me. I feel like it loses momentum, I feel like character motivations aren’t as fleshed out as I liked and I feel like the book was really predictable in terms of choices it made. I really liked Ayla as a character, but did not feel anything for Crier at all. I also feel like their relationship is never really grounded – neither in their hate nor in their subsequent attraction and reluctant friendship. So – meh. I don’t have to say a lot about this one except that it’s completely insane that all of this is true and that this is really a great piece of investigative journalism. It was a really compelling read and I am so glad I got around to reading it. Highly recommended.

This book is by far my favorite of the month and it’s one of the most fun reading experiences I ever had. This book is super dramatic and over the top, but it’s full of really good angst and I really loved the characters in here. And I mean, who doesn’t want to read about made-up American royals and their love drama? I know I do. If you want to know more, you can find my thoughts HERE.

Finally, I read Now Entering Adamsville and this book was… adequate? I read it fast, it was fine, but it did nothing for me. I love Zappia’s writing style, but the characters and the story were really one beat and seemed like they were done a thousand times before. The book did not offer a lot of depth or complexity or anything really to make me love it. It was just fine. If you want to know more of what I thought, you can find it on Goodreads.

This is one of the worst reading months I ever had. Love that for me – but we’re not going to dwell on it. But wow, that average rating is sad.
