Favorite New Authors of 2019

Best new (to me) authors of 2019.

Next up in the end of the year posts I am terribly behind on is my favorite new authors I discovered in 2019. I have found some fantastic people whose writing I really enjoy and I cannot wait to see what they come up with next. So let’s chat about them!

Casey McQuiston

Casey wrote one of my favorite books of the year and I am so glad I got to read Red, White and Royal Blue early and join in on the hype and the spreading of the love for it. Not only do I love her writing, which is hopeful and nuanced and really well crafted, I also love her online presence. She is just an all-around win for me this year and I am so excited to see what she does next. My review for Red, White and Royal Blue can be found HERE, if you want to read more about my gushy feelings.

Alix E. Harrow

I absolutely adore Harrow’s writing. The Ten Thousand Doors of January is the best-written debut I have ever read, and the writing is just layered with love of stories, and fantasy and books, and I just loved every bit of it. The story of The Ten Thousand Doors of January is so carefully constructed, every word feels deliberate, and I cannot wait to see more of the gorgeous writing in future books by Alix E. Harrow. You can read my full review of her debut HERE.

Sally Rooney

No one is surprised that I loved Rooney so much. Normal People made me incredibly anxious, but it’s a fantastic book. I think Rooney’s writing is probably the best I read this whole year, and I really connected with it. I think she really understands people and relationship dynamics of all sorts and I am just obsessed with her writing. She has this uncanny ability to portray the interpersonal in a really simple, yet complex way, and I loved that about her writing. I cannot wait to read more. You can find my review for Normal People HERE.

Jennifer Giesbrecht

I read The Monster of Elendhaven completely by chance (it came with my Gideon ARC) and I loved it. The writing is so dark and gritty and romantic and I absolutely adored it. I think Giesbrecht style is so unique and evocative and I really cannot wait to read more from her in the future. My review for The Monster of Elendhaven can be found HERE.
