The Reading Rush 2020 TBR

readingrush

It’s Reading Rush Time again! Every year, I participate in this readathon and it’s always a lot of fun, especially since a lot of people participate and you can chat with everyone about ALL the books. This year, the readathon starts on July 20th and goes on through July, 26th! All the info is available on their site HERE.

Each year, there are 7 different challenges to complete and I sort of structure my TBR around those, even though I never complete all 7 challenges. I like to have my options open, so I have a couple of books set up for my TBR, so let’s get into it!

Read a book with a cover that matches the color of your birthstone.

Okay, so I’ve googled my birthstone and these are the three options that come up:

June Birthstone. June is one of only two months that has… | by ...

So I’ve got options, but since I am not sure how much reading I’ll be able to do before The Reading Rush starts, I’ve also set up two options for this prompt. I am either gonna read Harrow the Ninth, which as you can see matches the Moonstone color very well. If I manage to pick that one up before the Reading Rush starts, then for this challenge I am gonna go with The Poppy War.

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, Book 1) e-bok av R.F. Kuang ...Harrow the Ninth (The Locked Tomb Trilogy (2)): Muir, Tamsyn ...

Read a book that starts with the word “The”.

The Bass Rock: Amazon.co.uk: Wyld, Evie: 9781911214397: Books

For this challenge, I am gonna go with The Bass Rock by Evie Wyld. This is on our alternative prize longlist for 2020 (more on that here, here, here, here or here) and so I am super excited to get into this one. This is a story that follows three different perspectives that all happen in the same place, the Bass Rock, but at different time periods.

Read a book that inspired a movie you’ve already seen.

I have no books for this prompt? I just don’t know any movies that I’ve loved that I am interested in reading the book. But if you have any recs on good movies that were inspired by great books, I am all ears.

Read the first book you touch.

Conversations with Friends: Amazon.co.uk: Rooney, Sally ...

I think this challenge is so pointless (and not even in a fun way but OKAY, who am I to judge). I recently hauled a couple of books, and I decided that the first one I opened (and hence touched) would be my book for this challenge and that was Conversations With Friends! I am so excited to read this, since I liked Normal People so much.

Read a book completely outside of your house.

Flyaway: Jennings, Kathleen, Datlow, Ellen: 9781250260499: Amazon ...

I am going with Flyaway by Kathleen Jennings! This is a dark, contemporary fairytale-esque novella with gothic vibes and I am so excited to dive into it. This one is out on July 28th and I think it’s gonna be amazing.

Read a book in a genre that you’ve always wanted to read more of.

Artificial Condition: The Murderbot Diaries (The Murderbot Diaries ...

Okay, so I always want to read more Sci-Fi but never get around to it, so I am going to read the second Murderbot novella! I loved the first one a lot, I think Murderbot is hilarious, and I am really excited to see what it gets up to in Aritificial Condition.

Read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live.

This is hilarious because most of the books I read are set in a different continent. I think Flyaway is set in Australia, so that will count.

And that’s my Reading Rush TBR! Are you participating this year? What’s on your TBR if you are? Also, drop me a link to your Reading Rush profile so I can add you there!

In the meantime, happy reading

  2. This looks like a great list! I’m excited to see what you think of Conversations With Friends, and The Bass Rock! And if you love Artificial Condition maybe I’ll finally get around to picking it up- I loved the first Murderbot novella as well, but haven’t continued on yet. Best of luck with the challenges this week! 🙂

  3. Happy reading! I laughed a little at you saying the “pick the first book you touch” prompt felt pointless to you because I swear, one of my eyebrows went allllll the way up when I first saw that prompt. Like… really? >_> Lmao. I hope you enjoy all of these ♥ And good luck picking a movie/book prompt! That would be tough for me because if I watch the movie before reading the book, it’s usually because I have no real interest in ever reading the book, OR because I just don’t know the book exists, which is also not very helpful. 😂
