Ronan Lynch’s Reading List

A new feature in which I recommend books based on favorite characters.

So I had an idea last night, and I thought I’d put it to good use today! I am starting a new feature on the blog in which I recommend you books based on certain character. Meaning I recommend books based on the character itself, but also books I think the character would enjoy or that would relate to them in any shape or form. And obviously we are kicking it off with my favorite character of all time – Ronan Lynch from the brilliant Raven Cycle.

Here are some stuff that you should hear about Ronan:

“Ronan Lynch, keeper of secrets, fighter of men, devil of a boy…”

“…Ronan Lynch, ferocious and dark…”

There were terrifying things in his head.”

Ronan, ferocious and loyal and fragile.”

-blessed with all of these by Maggie Stiefvater

So now that we have established what we’re dealing with, let’s get to the recs:

PicMonkey Collage

1. The House of Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

A dark, twisted YA story about clones. It’s about one of those clone boys trying to find his purpose and moreover, his freedom. Something that speaks Ronan clearly.

2. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

A story about young boys and class and fighting and how things can go horribly wrong. A story about friendships and hardships and grief. Again, something Ronan could enjoy or relate to.

3. The Grownup by Gillian Flynn

A short story about a haunted house, but in the cleverest possible way. Creepy and dark and featuring a really strange boy. Very Ronan.

4. Vicious by V.E. Schwab

A story of heros and villains, but not in a way that you would think. More like antiheros and antivillains. And morally grey characters. And superpowers. And viciousness. All Ronan-like things.

5. Grief is the Thing With Feathers by Max Porter

A story about family and fathers and mothers and creepy birds. If you read the Raven Cycle then you know that this is the most Ronan sentence you can write. You can find my review for it HERE.

6. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

You might see this and think how obvious. But it fits really well. It’s a story about a really angry and sad kid, who discovers friendship and love and in the process himself. And it’s happy and nice, all things Ronan deserves and needs.

SO those are my recommendations! Did you enjoy this kind of post? Do you like my recommendations? Are there any characters you would like me to do in the future? Please let me know in the comments!

  1. I love your choice about the Outsiders! I feel like that is a part of Ronan that is usually overshadowed by his anger, but Ronan is really loyal to Gansey and protective of those in his Raven Boys crew. I think he would really relate to the feeling of brotherhood the boys feel in the Outsiders.

  2. I feel like both Ronan and Adam would be well suited for Vicious (did you know Maggie Stiefvater sorted Adam into Slytherin and Ronan into Gryffindor and it somehow MAKES SENSE?).
Oh my god, Ari and Dante would be the kind of book Ronan would never openly agree to liking but it would be a really, really special book for him.
