Ron Weasley’s Reading List

A feature in which I recommend you books based on your favorite character.

A while back I introduced a new feature in which I recommend you books that remind me of a certain character. So it’s either books I think they as a character would enjoy or that remind me of the character itself. The first in the installment was obviously Ronan Lynch, followed by Hermione Granger. This time due to popular demand,  I am doing Ron’s reading list.

I know some people dislike Ron, but he is one of my favorite characters. He is so loyal and funny and just overall great. I love his character in the books, since he was much more complex, with insecurities and layers to his personality. He was also quite clever in the books, and all of his great lines were given to Hermione in the movies, and he was reduced down to comedic relief. He deserved more.

Anyways, when I think of Ron, I think of a fun, adventure, loyalty, underdogs and the search for greatness and approval. So this reading list is constructed around those attributes. Hope you like it! Here’s Ronald Bilius Weasley’s Reading List:

1. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

When I was planning out this feature, this is the one that instantly popped into my head. A sci-fi adventure, inspired by 80s video games. I for one think that Ron would love video games and the whole premise of an underdog trying to prove his greatness is something that just speaks Ron to me. I think he would really enjoy a book like this one.

2. Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson

I think Ron would really like the Wax and Wayne era of the Mistborn universe. The friendship between the two characters, the absolute hilariousness of Wayne and the steampunky adventurous feel of this arc of the series seems like something that Ron would be interested in.

3. The Martian by Andy Weir

I don’t know why, I just think sci fi would be Ron’s jam. And The Martian features a really clever, sarcastic and funny character just trying to survive. That’s just Ron for you. There’s something about Mark Watney that is very Ron-like.

4. Born a Crime by Trevor Noah

I think Ron would love Noah’s memoir. Noah is so funny, with a really honest voice. This memoir is about him growing up really poor in South Africa and most predominantly, his relationship with his mother. I think that aspect would really appeal to Ron, but also the rest of the book, the exploration of race and the aftermath of apartheid seems also like something he would like to read (especially when you take into consideration how he grew up in a pureblood family, but never felt like he was superior because of it and the parallel between that and Noah being colored and never really fitting in). I just think it’s a really great Ron book. You can find more of my thoughts on it HERE.

5. The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

This is a fast-paced, action packed adventure with a dystopian twist and it seems like the style of it and the overall feel of this series is something Ron would enjoy. There’s also friendship and putting those friendships to test and a lot of heart in it. A very Ron series indeed.

 6. Descender by by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen

Finally, I feel like Ron would really love comics and graphic novels. Keeping on the Sci Fi theme, Descender is a wonderful comic series about an AI who is trying to find his family and his human best friend. It’s an epic adventure, but again, with a lot of heart and with beautiful art. I really feel like Ron would like this.

And that’s it for this post’s recommendations! Let me know if you liked this and if you have any recs of your own, I would love to hear them!

  1. I’ve only read Born A Crime form this list. Ron would love it cause Trevor had that fear of flies flying up his ass- a fear Ron would relate to.
I’m considering reading Ready Player One but I can’t find it- tiny town with faraway library.
