The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Easily the best Romance novel I have ever read.

As you know, I do not talk a lot about Romance books on this blog. I read them, but none of them ever grab my attention as much for them to actually warrant a review. However, I just read The Hating Game by Sally Thorne and I loved it! This book had so much hype around it, and absolutely every person I follow who read it – loved it, so I had to see what the fuss was about. Well, believe the hype!

The Hating Game is based on my absolute favorite trope in history of time – hate-to-love romance. I am there for it and I adore it. This book handled that trope wonderfully. Lucy and Josh, our main characters, work side to side as assistants to the CEOs at a publishing company and they are constantly at each other’s throats, playing games and trying to one up each other. If you already love it, you’re completely right.

When it comes to romance, I never expect the writing to be anything spectacular, but Thorne’s writing had such a nice flow to it, and I really enjoyed it. I loved both of the main characters so much, which is a rarity in itself for me in romance. I usually dislike one or the other, but I really loved both Lucy and Josh from page one. I heard a lot of people say that they thought Josh was a douche in the beginning, but I don’t mind because, guess what, another favorite trope – a douchebag with a heart of gold. And Josh is the embodiment of that trope. He seems like not a nice person, but he actually completely is and it’s adorable, and I am a sucker for it, so sue me.

The tension between these characters was so well done. I love that aspect of romance, and the push and pull between them, their banter and back and forth, was so witty and funny and charming and I absolutely loved it. I legit wanted to reread this book as soon as I finished. And I finished this in one night, staying up until 5 am, and I had uni in the morning. I will say that I found some plot points unbelievable and somewhat cliche, but I could not care less. I still think this was great.

Wholeheartedly recommend this one and let me know if you read it and your thoughts on it!

Final verdict: 5 stars (and I never give 5 stars to romance books)
